Association for Media Development In South Sudan (AMDISS) has issued an apology following backlash from journalists after its director criticized reporters covering the Special Court proceedings in Juba.
In a statement on national broadcaster (SSBC) Mary Aya claimed that journalists covering the ongoing court case involving suspended first vice President Riek Machar and six others lacked professionalism.
However, In a statement, the media advocacy body described the director’s remarks made after a meeting with Information Minister Michael Makuei on Wednesday as a “slip of the tongue,” clarifying that they were not meant to undermine the professionalism, dedication, or courage of journalists reporting on the case.
The apology follows widespread criticism from members of the media who accused AMDISS and its director of failing to stand in solidarity with journalists covering the sensitive proceedings.
