The Special Court in Juba today continued hearings in the ongoing Nasir trial involving Puot Kang and others, who are facing charges of murder, treason, and crimes against humanity related to the March 2025 Nasir incident that left dozens of soldiers dead.
During the proceedings, the presiding bench cautioned the defence lawyers over the nature of their questioning during cross examination.
Justice Steven Simon told the defence team: “You seem to be asking questions that are incriminating your own people,” urging the lawyers to remain professional and focused in their approach.
Justice James Alala Deng further stressed that this is a high-profile case requiring experienced advocates, noting that the court may need to reconsider and review the level of experience of some defence lawyers if necessary.
Earlier in the proceedings, Lead Investigator Maj. Gen. Basilio Thomas Wani was cross-examined on evidence collection and electronic data extraction.
The caution came after the judges clarified that the defence was conducting a cross examination, not examination in chief.
The court is adjourned till Wednesday, 5th November, for continuation of proceedings.
