A police captain has been killed following an early morning attack in Torit allegedly carried out by SPLM-IO forces, according to Eastern Equatoria State Governor Louis Lobong Lojore.
Governor Lobong said the assault occurred at around 5:00 AM on Tuesday, when armed SPLM-IO forces launched a raid on the Torit Military Hospital. At the same time, another group reportedly advanced from Enyif and fired on the official vehicle of the Torit County Commissioner.
“The attack resulted in the killing of a Police Captain who was serving as the Deputy Inspector of Police for Torit County,” Lobong confirmed.
The governor confirmed the incident followed a November 17 ambush on a passengers’ vehicle traveling from Kapoeta to Napotpot, where one civilian was injured.
According to Lobong, the latest attack is part of what he described as a pattern of continued hostile activities attributed to SPLM-IO, including:
Multiple road ambushes along the Kapoeta–Torit, Torit–Magwi, and Torit–Juba routes, resulting in loss of lives and property, as well as child abductions.
In May 2025, a raid on an SSPDF military outpost in Enyif that left one soldier dead.
Meanwhile On September 25, 2025, there was a raid on the Kapoeta National Security Office.
Lobong stated that Tuesday’s assault amounts to a “declaration of war against the Government and the peace-loving people of Eastern Equatoria State.”
The governor urged residents to remain alert and avoid offering support or shelter to groups involved in violence.
“I call upon all citizens of Eastern Equatoria State to remain vigilant. The SSPDF and all organized forces have been directed to take necessary measures to protect lives and property and defend the sovereignty and peace of the Republic of South Sudan,” he said.
The State government condemned the attacks calling them coordinated provocation aimed at distabilizing the region.
