JUBA, Nov 21, 2025 — Digitel Telecommunications and the South Sudan Athletics Federation (SSAF) have signed a 10-year partnership aimed at strengthening athletics and promoting national unity.
SSAF Secretary-General Adv. Marco AkoL described the agreement as “a powerful collaboration built on shared goals.” He said the support comes as the federation works to expand athlete development and national competitions.
Digitel Chief Commercial Officer Mr. Abdul said the company sees the deal as “an investment in the nation’s youth,” noting Digitel was inspired by the success of the 2024 Independence Marathon.
Digitel EVP De Chan Awoul announced plans to elevate the Digitel Independence Marathon into a world-class annual event, saying participation from all communities would make it “a symbol of peace and national pride.”
Digitel clarified that the partnership includes $10,000 annually for 10 years, plus additional support for training, marathon organization and improvements at Buluk Stadium.
SSAF said the collaboration will help unlock South Sudan’s natural athletic talent and attract regional participation in future events.
