BENJAMIN BOL MEL FIRED AS COUNTRY'S VP

President Salva Kiir has RelievedBenjamin Bol Mel from his position as Vice President of South Sudan in a presidential decree read on State owned television SSBC.

The president also removed Benjamin Bol Mel as SPLM First Deputy Chairman.

Kiir in another decree demoted from Mel from his rank as General to the rank of Private and dismissed from the National Security Service making the former VP a normal citizen.

President Salva Kiir also relieved Paul Logale from his position as SPLM Secretary General and appointed Akol Paul Kordit the new SPLM Secretary General.

Addis Ababa Othow was sacked from his position as Governor of the Bank of South Sudan.

The last decree saw Simon Akuei removed as Commissioner General of the South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA) and appointed William Anyuon Kuol as his replacement.

Bol Mel, 52, was appointed vice-president and head of the government’s economic cluster in February, replacing veteran politician James Wani Igga. In May, he was promoted to first deputy chairman of the SPLM, a move seen as strengthening his position within the party.

In September, President Kiir promoted him to the rank of full general within the National Security Service his third major elevation in less than a year.
