Action against Hunger sign memorandum of understanding : South Sudan

Action Against Hunger signs a memorandum of understanding with the specialized committee of Parliament on Agriculture and Food Security.
Speaking during the signing, the 1st deputy speaker of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly, Hon. Ambrose Lomin Pitia, says the signing reflects the importance of food security in the country.
 
Hon. Ambrose says the crisis is temporary and the country will come out of it. The signing of the MOU should not remain on paper but should be implemented to deliver the much-needed service to the people.
 
The chairperson of the specialized committee, Hon. Ghada James Killa, says 23 % of the population is food insecure, which requires a collective responsibility to contain the situation.
 
Hon. Ghada says it’s important for the country to invest in agriculture to reduce food insecurity in the country.
Champion nutrition financing by ensuring sufficient budget for nutrition matters in the country.
 
Nkubizi Clement, Action Against Hunger country representative, says this signing is significant because over 70% of the population is young. there for it is important for the government to use agriculture to create employment for the young people.
 
The MOU signed aims to strengthen policy and budget advocacy on nutrition, food security, and climate financing.
It will also provide a way for capacity building for lawmakers on tools such as the Budget Monitoring and Expenditure Tracking (BMET), Climate Change Actions, and the Modelling Early Risk Indicators to Anticipate Malnutrition (MERIAM) Model for evidence-based decision-making.
 
The MOU will also help in the multi-sectoral coordination between Parliament, line ministries, civil society, and development partners, and promote young men, women, and community engagement in nutrition, food security, and climate policy dialogue and implementation.
